River Trail Neighborhood

Located in the heart of campus, with beautiful views of the Red Cedar River and close proximity to academic buildings

River Trail Neighborhood is located along the south bank of the Red Cedar River on Shaw Lane. River Trail Neighborhood includes McDonel Hall, Owen Hall, Shaw Hall and Van Hoosen Hall. McDonel Hall is known by students for its quiet atmosphere and housing the Residential Business Program for first-year business students. Thrive dining hall, MSU’s allergen-conscious dining facility in Owen Hall, is free from the Big 8 allergens (milk, eggs, soy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish) and gluten and is also sesame conscious. Owen Hall is an ideal spot for graduate students, professional students and undergraduate upperclassmen who desire a living environment conducive to study.

Shaw Hall is in the center of main campus, making it the perfect hall for new and returning students looking to fully immerse themselves in Spartan life. Van Hoosen Hall is an apartment-style residence hall for women of sophomore status or above who meet certain GPA criteria. The apartment-style living is perfect for students who do not want to purchase a meal plan when living on campus. Nearby you will find the Business College Complex and Minskoff Pavilion, MSU College of Law, the College of Veterinary Medicine, IM Sports East and the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.

The Vista at Shaw

The Vista, Shaw’s dining hall, features captivating views of the Red Cedar River, hearth-baked pizzas, Kosher cuisine and more!

Students sit and eat at a row of booths and tables in a brightly lit and colorful dining hall.
